Transoesopageal Echocardiogram
A transoesophageal echocardiogram, or TOE, is a specialised ultrasound that provides detailed images of the heart by placing a small probe into the oesophagus (food pipe). This close proximity allows for clearer views of certain heart structures that may be difficult to see through the chest wall. TOEs are often recommended when a standard echocardiogram does not provide enough detail.
